Default Poker Site Idea

We all know that rake is a real barrier to actually winning in games these days where the average player is improving all the time and there's less edge to be found . Not so bad for mtts where rake is still a small part of potential ROI but for sngs and cashgames it's a real problem.

What about a "rake free" pokersite with subscription charges ? I think this would work if a site offered packages . You can buy a "beginner" package for $10 and you get 1000 "PLAYPOINTS" with a 1 week expiry , a recreational package $35 for 5k PP with 2 weeks expiry , a intermediate package of $125 for 20k PP with 1 month expiry etc etc

Now each game costs a certain number of PLAYPOINTS , like a $5 sng might cost 30 PLAYPOINTS . A hand at 25nl cash might cost 1 PLAYPOINT . W/e obv it needs to be worked out correctly

The reason I think it would work is a lot of the recreational players and even some regs sometimes won't use all their playpoints before they expire . So even though rake WILL be a lot lower for the regs/high volume players it won't be lower for everyone , so the site will actually rake more than it advertises (good for the site which obv needs to make money) . Like I can envisage a random rec buying 1000 PPs for $10 from his $90 bankroll . Then playing for a bit , getting bored and deciding to play 50nl , go busto and he's still got 700 PPs left but he doesn't redeposit before they expire and so in effect he actually paid higher rake than he would have on a normal pokersite . If he DOES decide to redeposit because he wants to use up his PPs then that's good too because the more fish/recs that are playing on the ste then the more regulars are going to want to play also and player traffic is good

It could be a way for a new pokersite to differentiate themselves from all the competition and if it's advertised correctly and is genuinely a better deal for regular players then I don't see why it shouldn't be succesful . I guess the biggest problem would be in persuading the fish/recs to part with some money upfront so there'd need to be a free trial and lots of ways of actually getting them on the site to begin with and fully explaining how they're actually paying a lot less to play on this site than others (especially since they won't have any rb deals or vip status on other sites so an upfront subscription would work out comparatively a LOT better for them - IF they use all their PlayPoints)

Thoughts ? Flaws ? Anyone got a few million to get this going ?

For example , say Facebook offered this on their pokersite

A beginner deposits $50 and gets 50 free cashgame hands . This is good for the regs because there's a fish playing on the site . If he loses his money then the regs are happy and it's good for the game/player traffic. If he wins and runs it up to $80 then it says free trial is over - Now pay just $10 for 1000 PlayPoints (which might be 1000 hands at 25nl) . He will probably pay that $10 since he is winning and now he has $70 which he'll probably lose , again good for the regs and the game . If he doesn't lose then he'll prob want to buy more PPs to continue playing since he's obv a poker genius

Sounds kinda workable. Might be a really good idea. I will sleep on it and see if I still think it's a good idea in the morning

Hasn't something like this already been done? a subscription per time period site? (probably done badly, with bad software, and all round under-funding)

Seems very reasonable plan. Lets get in touch with a millionaire ready to invest.

Fish want free stuff. So keep rewarding redeposits. But also reward playing a numerous of games. This is attract regulars as well as recreational players!

the money is in the fish, not you guys, you guys are a side effect of the business model...the recreational player will pay the rake with no real complaining...
eons ago we paid time.. every 30 minutes they would come around and collect it..

That' statement is completely wrong for ONLINE poker. One high volume reg is worth 10 fish/recreational players in amount of rake paid . Yeh the half hourly rake in live games is the same sort of thing and most people prefer that I think ?

yes regs pay more vig but they also get rakeback bonuses, etc, which turns into regs really not paying much at all if any..

I believe it was changed because rake is more profitable than time so dont get excited about it going back..
