Time flies when you're having fun.

2013 is officially coming to an end now and my first year of playing professionally has been a blast. I have exceeded my goals and expectations in a variety of ways, which will allow me to give it another shot in the coming year. So now its time to summarize some of the most important events of 2013 and I'm not even sure where to start. I wish I gave myself more time to prepare this entry but I'm heading out for the night in a bit and want to get it posted beforehand. So where to begin? How about some of my 2013 goal accomplishments and how they'll be altered for next year.

Goal #1: Financial profitability. Net $20k+ from poker related revenue
Going into year 1, I wanted to set a goal in which was both reasonably obtainable but yet financially justifiable. If I weren't to hit my decided target then I'd have to seriously consider a more lucrative career path in the "real life" work force. Without getting too specific, I accomplished this goal through an array of poker related revenues. Primarily its SNGs and rakeback/bonuses that account for a majority of my income but also streams like MTTs, staking, coaching, cash games, and live poker were contributors as well. Next year I'm setting the goal at netting $30k+ from poker related revenue. While I believe there is quite a bit of potential to exceed this goal, once again it's being set somewhat conservatively so that I can hopefully continue my path as a pro player going into 2015.

Goal #2: Volume. Play 25k 18mans, reach 200k VPPs, and hit 1k MTTs
I succeeded to reach both 25k 18mans and 200k VPPs, both of which were accomplished with approximately a week to spare. My SNG ABI this year was slightly south of $20 and I'll be looking to increase it by about 25-50% in the upcoming year. I'm falling a bit short of 1k MTTs but that's not really a concern to me as I smashed my MTT profit projections anyways (more on that later). I ended up grinding SNGs for 1366 hours and logged 108.5 separate hours of studying with various peers and colleagues. Next year I'm aiming for 30k 18mans, 300k VPPs, and more like 2k MTTs.

Goal #3: Be profitable at staking
In 2012 I ended up taking a $1k loss from investing in fellow players - it was the first time that a full year of staking ended in a loss. So this year the goal was to simply take a step in the right direction and profit from this side-activity. Fortunately that goal ended up successful as I'm gonna make somewhere in the ballpark of $1k-$1.5k this year pending on the remaining investments. Special thanks to OBB who managed to turn a $10 punt into $1.2k earlier in the year during SCOOP time. Obviously that was a huge help in completing this goal - its also the best ROI I've ever achieved from a single stake. Because it's not extremely important to bottom line, I'm going to set my 2014 staking goal a bit more aggressively and aim for $2.5k profit which would narrowly beat out my previous best of $2.4k profit in 2011.

Some of my other 2013 poker accomplishments include:
  • Summertime trip to Vegas
  • Playing >1.2 Million hands throughout the year
  • Ending the year as #1 on the 2-3 table $7-$15 Sharkscope Leaderboard
  • Played >3k SNGs in a month (did it twice)
  • Hit my first 5 figure MTT score by chopping the $1r $60k GTD for $12k
  • Shipped my first $100 18man
  • >$2k profit from 1 day of SNGs as well as my first time having back-to-back >$1k SNG days

Side Project

I've always wanted to be involved in the business-end of a poker company. Didn't really matter what exactly it was, just wanted to have a situation where I can use my academics in business and/or marketing towards something I'm passionate about. A colleague of mine was reaching out for people to help him start a staking stable so I discussed things with him and and I joined his pursuit of starting up the company. I'm going to be an Operations Manager overseeing day to day activities and communicating with all the departments, as well as a Horse Manager in charge of reviewing applications and selecting horses for the stable. I've been staking for several years now and am quite keen on developing and maintaining spreadsheets so this is a great fit for me as a side project. We're looking to officially launch sometime in January or early Feb. I'm cautiously optimistic about the future profitability of the company and I know it'll take a lot of work before it produces any significant profits - it should be a fun ride. But without further ado, here are some pics to conclude the year.

Here is my HM2 December SNG graph including rakeback.

Here is my 2013 HM2 graph of all SNGs + rakeback and bonuses.

Here is the final lobby of my first ever 5 figure score.

Here is the final Sharkscope leaderboard result which was mentioned earlier.

Here is my 2013 Sharkscope graph for all games with rakeback and bonuses.

Here is my all time 18man stats including rakeback and bonuses.

As usual I may have left out some details that I was planning to include in here but I'm running out of time and need to get this done ASAP. Thanks to everyone who is reading my blog. Good luck to everyone at the tables next year and I hope to continue to be able to post more and more good news as the months go on. Happy new year everyone

Alright, time to finally get this over with.

Each and every year around this time I'm always amazed at how quickly the year seemed to go by. Looking back, 2014 presented an array of obstacles for me both in poker and in life, and as a result I didn't quite hit all the numbers and goals I was aiming for. In fact overall I'm pretty disappointed with my volume and results, but I'm relieved that the year is over and I get to start fresh in a couple days. With that being said though there was still a few successes that happened as well, and I think it's important to elaborate on those. But first I'll get some of the hindrances that I've faced out of the way.

Where to start? Well, at two separate times throughout the year one of my cats got quite sick with some urinary issues, which at times I feared that it could end in death. This required many trips to the vet and also having to administer pills to the cat up to twice a day which is not an easy task (still have a month of pills to go). Cats do not like being forced to swallow pills. In addition to the time these things took up, I also racked up some pretty hefty vet bills in the process. On the bright side, the pills and new diet are healing his bladder stones and he's expected to make a full recovery! W00t w00t!

I believe it was sometime around January or February when Mick won his seat to the Canada Cup main event. This was unexpected but also a superb opportunity to take a trip to Montreal and grind at Playground Poker club. So I ended up playing live poker for a couple weeks over there, but as a result I lost two weeks of online grinding.

Last year (2013) during my first trip to Vegas I ended up staying for 17 days. We came to the conclusion that 17 days was not quite long enough for our trip, but little did I know that we would double it in 2014, spending 35 days in beautiful Las Vegas Nevada.

After coming home from Vegas my girlfriend and I decided to spend a week in Dominican Republic, so we ended up doing that in October as our first trip out of the country together. Had a great time on that trip but yet again it was another lost week of volume.

Lastly, when I got home from that trip in early November I moved to a new residence. Moving houses was a long process but what's even longer is the time it takes to adapt to new surroundings. After being here for 2 months I finally feel like I've adapted to the changes and nuances that are associated with a new home. One of the things in particular that gave me a ton of trouble was the internet. After countless disconnections I've got my fingers crossed now that I've fixed the problems and have enough safeguards in place so that the internet won't adversely affect my grind in the upcoming year.

My accomplishments this year pale in comparison to last year but there are a few of them that I can recall at this moment.

This Summer I spent 35 days in Vegas with fellow Surfers and had a great time. It was my second trip, and twice as long as the first one. I managed to win my first live tournament, a $125 NLHE at the Golden Nugget with 105 entrants - shipping it for $3k. In addition to this, I also played my first $500 tournament (WPT500) and first $1000 tournament (Golden Nugget Main Event). The WPT500 did not go well at all for our group. I outlasted them but still busted within the first 2 hours. The Golden Nugget Main Event was more interesting. It was a 2 day event. The first day I steadily built my stack in the 10 ish hours of play, but ended with a mere 20bb for Day 2. With low expectations but high hopes, I woke up early the next day to attend Day 2, hoping for the best. It was definitely a roller coaster ride. Long story short I managed to double up a couple times, and eventually built my stack into what I thought was the chiplead with the remaining 200 ish players in the field. Unfortunately though with 55 getting paid, I busted in around 70th place losing a flip. Very excited for next year though.

Despite all the obstacles I faced in 2014, I'm still ending the year with around 1 Million hands played so I guess that's a positive. And despite the lack of volume, I'm still ending in the top 10 (5th, I believe) on the sharkscope leaderboard that I was #1 on last year. Lastly, earlier in the year I've found a great network of local home games in which I've been attending since March. I love being able to play live on a weekly basis, and I've even grinded my way to #1 on the annual leader board of these games. In addition to honing my live game skills and getting practice for next year's Vegas trip, I've met lots of cool people and even made some new friends along the way.

Some of my goals for 2015 include:
  • 30k+ SNGs
  • Hit 4k games in a month
  • Have a profitable Vegas trip
  • Be profitable at staking
  • Become a lot better at $30 18mans

Anyways, not really feeling 100% right now so I think it's time to wrap this up. I am confident that if I put the hours in next year the results will be much better. Holdem Manager has been acting up for me lately which is why I haven't included all the usual screenshots that I normally do. I might just not do that anymore and use Sharkscope screenshots instead. I am very excited to start the grind on Jan 1. Thank you to everyone that is reading my blog, best of luck next year!

Pretty gross way to start the year obviously. January in the past has always been quite good to me but this time I feel like it couldn't have been much worse. My HoldemManager results tabs aren't working properly as of late (and also didn't capture all of my games due to a few internet disconnections and Stars mass disconnection issues throughout the month) so I'll use Sharkscope instead. Lost around 50 buyins at my best game which is pretty unreal. If HM2 wasn't glitching up I was going to post the discrepancies between my bb/100 and EVbb/100 as well as my net chips won as compared to my chips won (EV adjusted). Everything points to variance really kicking my ass this month, and I can't lie, it's been frustrating. With that being said, I've been putting in the studying hours and will continue to do so - this negative variance cannot last forever and it's about time I catch a heater hopefully. Due to the frustration and runbad throughout the month I didn't even hit my goal of 3k+ SNGs which is a bit disappointing as well. I guess on the bright side, after rakeback the losses were really quite minimal. Hope things will turn around soon because this was not a fun month at all.

Another frustrating month, but at least it was better than January. Feb started off decently enough but went pretty downhill in the last couple weeks. Feels like I'm running horribly but there's likely some mistakes that need patching up too. Since I've run pretty poorly in 2015 so far the volume has been more challenging than it would otherwise be, but at some point or another I'm going to have to start turning it up to have a realistic shot at reaching my yearly goals. On the bright side, I did make a profit at my main $15 18mans (unlike last month) but I did get pounded at a small sample of $30-$100 games. Luckily I managed to do quite well over ~100 $15 180mans which really was a monthsaver. In March I will be polishing up my game, cranking up the volume and turning this ship around.

Well once again it's a slight improvement from last month but I'll have to continue waiting for my breakout month of 2015. I chose to move down in stakes in March and only played $15 and $7 18mans. The volume I got on them though wasn't quite as high as I would've liked, but I did find a new format to grind which has proved to be pretty fun and I think it has some potential. The format is 36man hyperturbo satellites to the Sunday Million. Started off on a real nice heater at them and then cooled down a lot but I think I'll continue to grind them. As far as 18mans go I think ideally I should probably stick with $7s and $15s during the day, and load some soft $30s/$60s in the evenings, but still somewhat undecided. Decisions decisions....

Once again volume wasn't great this month but I sure am glad to have my first decent month results-wise this year. Vegas is less than a month away and I have been playing plenty of live poker to prepare for it. I'll be leaving on the 26th of May and coming home on June 30th, so there won't be any June (online) volume to report on, but hopefully some nice runs and finishes in the live arena. In May I'll try to grind online as much as possible but it will probably be somewhat light due to my birthday, Vegas preparation, etc. When I get back however, I'm thinking my SNG volume will have to increase a fair bit and hopefully I can string some good months together.

Angry May Recap

May 2015
Games Played: 945
Table Profits: -$2,785
Including RB and BOP: $2,420
ROI: -18.0%

I've been procrastinating on this entry for a while. Obviously these numbers are ugly and it was a very frustrating month for me. As anticipated, volume ended up being quite low and it was somewhat expected. Had a bunch of stuff going on around my birthday, Vegas preparation, and also negative variance tends to reduce my volume pretty significantly. The bulk of my losses occurred at $15 18mans. It was only around 600 games (31k hands) but the variance was exceptionally nasty in this small sample. HM2 says I ran 400k chips below EV and 4evbb/100 below EV. On my final grinding day last week I was in a session of 18mans with around 12 tables up when my internet just all of a sudden cut out and didn't return. I did what I can to salvage the session by logging on to my mobile to play, but it only allowed 4 tables to be played simultaneously and it ended up killing my session. With all of that being said though, this is one of the downsides of producing such low volume in a month - there's not enough times for things to even out. After Vegas I plan to get back on the grind with a vengance and redeem this horrendous year.

On Tuesday I leave for Vegas and am very excited to get back on the live grind. I've been playing many hours of live poker at local home games which I feel have been helpful in getting me prepared for what's coming up. Within a week I'll be playing in the Colossus (my first ever bracelet event) and after that it will be many solid tournies in the $100-$400 buyin range as well as some 200nl grinding.

Got back from Vegas at the beginning of the month and it took a while to get back into my online grinding routine. I've only started to truly feel like I'm back into a decent routine towards the end of the month. The volume I put in as a whole wasn't that good, but I intend to increase it a lot in August. Will be focusing primarily on 18mans and 180mans - hopefully the increased volume in conjunction with variance turning around can result in a nice profitable month.

Smile August Recap

August 2015

ROI: 13.6%

Came into this month with some specific goals in mind. Wasn't too happy with my overall performance in July so in August I wanted to increase my average games per day played and also increase my games per hour. To do this I decided to start adding a bunch of other formats including 180mans ($3.50r, $8, $15), 90man prog KOs, 45mans and 27mans (non turbo). As you can see from the distribution screenshot, the 18s are still the main component of my grind but it's fun (and profitable) to play other games to supplement them. I'm happy with the results and will do everything possible to repeat (or exceed) them in September. I'll be missing a few days due to a short cottage trip, but will try to compensate with extra volume on other days.

Pretty lame way to follow up a great month, but I just couldn't get anything going in this September. I did alright at the 18mans but unlike last month I just wasn't hitting the top 3 spots in my 180 volume and that accounts for a lot of the losses. I missed a bunch of grinding days this month for a variety of reasons which is why I felt short of 2,000 SNGs. Over the last few days I've put the brakes on volume a little bit so I can reset/refresh and get mentally ready for October.

Obviously not a good month in both volume and overall results. Had 2 main obstacles/hindrances which effected my volume. One was finding out that I have a large repair bill to pay for my car (the logistics of IRL arrangements got a bit messy). The other was the Blue Jays' run in the playoffs (to non North-American readers, this was a very big deal in Canada while it lasted). The baseball run is over and the car situation is almost back to normal so with these things out of the way I hope to produce much better volume in November. This month it was the 180mans that killed me as I did fairly well in other formats. Only played around 300 of them on the month so very small sample, but HM2 says I ran 700k chips under EV . Anyways, enough of my bad beat story.

Not the greatest month ever as far as results go but still half decent thanks to a heater in the last week. Volume-wise I feel somewhat satisfied with myself putting in 123 grinding hours, but I know I can do better. I don't anticipate December to be a huge volume month as I'd like take it easy going into January as per usual, but moving onwards I'll be aiming for more like 2500-3000 games per month.

December's SNGs started off absolutely horribly for me as I went the first 12 playing days with all of them being losses (some relatively large ones) except for 1 breakeven day. I was running awfully but continued to put in the volume and it eventually started to turn around in my favour. I didn't play too many SNGs over the past 2 weeks and that's why the end result is still gonna be a bit negative at them, but I finally had a good month at MTTs and it all started with a 3rd in a $3r MTT for $1.7k (see pic below). After that I continued to heater at some small field MTTs and had a bunch of results including back to back nights in the $11 Final Table Only MTT where I got 1st and 3rd. I posted a screenshot of all my games on the month (not just the SNGs) below. Didn't really plan to make this a long entry so I'm going to end it here. In 2016 i'll be doubling my study time and nearly doubling my volume. Good luck to you all in the new year

Default January Recap

This year the format of my updates will be a bit different than they've been in the past. I used to look at my results at the end of each day and record the net profit/loss, number of hours played, volume rating, emotional control, etc., but moving onwards I'll actually not be looking at results much at all. My short term results do not matter whatsoever, however when things are going very well or very poorly it tends to affect my play and mental state in some ways. Last year I got off to a poor start in January and it ended up completely altering which games/buyins I would play in the subsequent months. So with that being said the only things I'll be recording on a day to day basis are the number of hours I grind per day and the number of hours I study per day. Not even looking at EV numbers in holdem manager. Fortunately I have a coach who will be assessing these things for me and letting me know if there are areas I need to improve on or leaks that need to be patched. And he's also very flexible about allowing cashouts whenever needed, regardless of the money won or lost. This year we're pretty much doubling the amount of study sessions and we're going to be working more diligently and efficiently in improving our games. This year there's also going to be monetary awards for the people in our group who end up with the most hours played each month. I believe the prizes are $350 for 1st and $150 for 2nd. This month I ended up with the most hours at 191 which is a personal best for me. I'm very curious to know how many games I ended up playing but that is one of the things that I'm not going to bother looking at on a regular basis. Overall I'm getting the feeling that January isn't going to be a great result profit-wise but I'm at least satisfied with the hours and study time I've put in. When I was doing a transfer to somebody today I accidentally caught a quick glimpse of my cashier balance and if I saw what I think I saw then my January results weren't particularly good.

My most played game on the month was likely 18mans and it's hard to guess how they turned out when all is said and done. $100 was the highest buyin I played at them (only a handful) and I think my best result was a 4th place in one of them. 45mans were a bit frustrating because I think I continued to crush the $7 level but had a ton of 8th and 9th place finishes in the $15s and $30s. I shipped two $15 180mans, 1 $8 180man and 1 $11 90man prog KO. I also final tabled two $35 180mans, but got 5th and 7th in them. The 7th occurred today when I lost AA vs AJs and J9s all in pre with both of them hitting a straight on river. I'm not going to lie, it was frustrating but life goes on and there will be more chances to finally win one. As far as MTTs go, I had a few deep runs here and there but no good scores. My best one was in a $1r 35k GTD where I got 30th out of 7k+ entrants where there was >$7k up top to the winner. This year I'm playing a lot more red label MTTs and look forward to the next big score.

So I think that's it for now. Whether my month was good or bad it doesn't really matter as I'm going to continue to put in a lot of hours and dedication to a solid and routine grind. February starts in 15 minutes for me as I'll be loading up a session of mostly 18mans (standard for my midnight sessions) and then a study session with the group in the morning. Thanks for reading (lol not sure if anybody still reads this) and good luck in February.

Default February Recap

So February is just winding down to its final minutes right now and it has been a bit of a roller coaster. As mentioned in the previous entry, I'm intentionally not looking at results very much or at all and I'm finding it pretty effective for the most part. It used to be a standard routine to go on to Sharkscope right after every session is over and check to see what the profit or loss was. Admittedly it was definitely kind of fun and interesting, but when I'd have a really bad session it would hurt a bit and that dollar value would linger on my mind for a while. I still have bad sessions every so often but now instead of looking to see how bad it was, I can just skip that part and have an easier time mentally preparing for the next one. I do kind of miss the whole Sharkscope routine but the mental advantage is more important so for now I'm going to continue in this way for a while. Perhaps at some time (3 month mark, 6 month mark, etc.) I'll unblock Sharkscope and comb through all of the years results to see how each of the game variants have gone so far. As of right now I've had so many ups and downs that I don't know where I stand on yearly profits - instead I'm more focused on keeping up my volume and fixing areas of my game that need improvement.

At the end of each month, my coach is compiling all of our databases together (there are 10 of us "students" in the group) and doing an extensive analysis on our EV performance at various BB categories (ex: 0-6, 6-9, 10-12, etc.). In January (over the 1 month sample of hands) the areas where I needed to improve were mostly in the deeper areas such as 21+BB, and I've been working on that throughout the month. Partially its been about improving post flop play but also consciously trying to open wider when applicable and VPIP more in general. I think I've done a good job at this but we'll see what the analysis comes up with. In that sample I ran half a million chips under EV (filtered for BB2k and below). Last month I finished on around 190 grinding hours and won our mini volume leaderboard, this month I did more like 175 hours and fell a bit short of prize money.

In the last entry I briefly talked about a deep run in the $1r $35k GTD. Despite the crapshooty nature of the tournament, it's one of my favourite ones because its where I've had my biggest score. Because of that I try to play it on most weekdays as it falls nicely into the time frame that I'm typically grinding. It didn't take long to get another deep run in it. Last month I got 30th and early in this months deep run I busted around 40th. I'll keep playing it and hopefully I'll be able to get back to the final table and ship it sooner or later. Throughout the month I recall only one 180 win which was a $3r 180. I had a number of 3rds-9ths in the 180 formats but don't recall any 2nds. Sometime after the 180 win I experienced some awful variance which lasted for a week or two; really nasty sessions over and over again which was difficult, but I think it would have been worse if I was seeing just how much money was being lost. Eventually the horrible run ended and I started winning some more and having a few deep runs. Not too long ago I got my first MTT final table of the year, although it was only a $11 $3k GTD where I ended up 5th for a couple hundred bucks. A couple days later I had a very deep run in the Big 11 but fell a bit short busting in 42nd place. And then yesterday I had quite an interesting evening. I loaded up some MTTs and SNGs in the late afternoon and 3-4 hours later I had some good stacks in 3 different tournaments. There was a $5 $3k, a $7.50 bounty builder ($40k gtd), and the $22 Mini Million ($125k gtd). The deepest one was the $5 $3k where I was chipleading for most of the final 2 tables and got to FT as 1/9. There was only around $700-$800 up top in this tournament but I was relieved to get my first FT of the year. Unfortunately, things did not go my way as I took a small hit to my stack early on, and then lost a massive flip in an opportunity to KO two players, but AK<44<99. I would go on to bust in 7th which was a bit disappointing but still had the Mini Million (which had around $29k up top) and the $7.50 bounty builder ($2.4k up top + bounties). The Mini Million was more of a turbo structure than the other games so my stack was getting short after playing the FT of the other game, I would eventually jam 67s but ran into 99 and busted around 120th. So that left me with the bounty builder, which I was chipleading as we got down to final 3 and final 2 tables. This was an interesting game because it was very deep stacked, and I was finding myself in a few tough situations. Without going into too much detail, there were a few bad hands and then 9 hours into it I ended up busting in 12th. Despite not hitting a good score yet I'm pretty encouraged by these results, and I hope I'll be able to ship a nice one in March.

Default March Recap

March was somewhat eventful, but fairly different from the first two months of 2015. As mentioned in the previous posts this year, my January volume was great (190hrs), February volume was good (175hrs) but unfortunately the trend of decreasing hours continued and I'm ending up at around 140. This is somewhat expected, its a pretty common trend for me over the years to burn out a bit by the time March/April come around. With that being said I've been taking it easy this last week and I intend to hit at least 150-160 hours in April. Earlier on in the month I had a period of 4 days of feeling very ill with a nasty cold (2nd one this Winter, yuck) which limited my volume during that stretch. In addition to that, the laptop I've had for the last 6 years finally crapped out and I bought a new one. So those are basically a few of the reasons why my volume wasn't great, but aside from the lack of volume I think the month was reasonably successful. I didn't keep track of exactly how many 180 man wins I had but I think it was at least 4 or 5 and at least one from each buy in level (with exception to the $35 180, don't think I played any of those in March). There was a day where I shipped both a $15 and $8 one within a couple hours of each other which was pretty cool. Overall I think I'm still not doing great at 180s this year but at least this was a step in the right direction. MTTs didn't go too well this month from what I can recall. Early on I did have a great opportunity in one but ended up 17th in a $8r with around $5k-$6k up top. I also couldn't resist the $10 Million GTD edition of the Sunday Million, where I fired 2 units but didn't end up cashing. It was a really weird game for me, lost with both AA and KK early on, built my 2nd entry up to around 40 or 50k, then lost a massive pot AA<JJ to get back to starting stack and couldn't recover afterwards. In spite of the lack of MTT scores, I think I did fairly well at 18mans because I was able to do my first profit swap of the year. In other good news, I'm noticing month by month improvements in my chip EV data which is very important. The area I mostly needed to improve in was 21bb+ and the figures this month show a very nice increase from Jan and Feb which highlights the attention and studying I've been doing towards it. In fact I was one of the top performers in the good this month based on a few metrics so pretty happy with that and I'm looking to continue this. In addition to a large online grind in April I'll also be heading to Montreal to play a Monster Stack tournament (WSOP circuit event) so GL to me and GL to you folks as well.

Smile April Recap

In April the volume goal was to hit around 150-160hrs of grinding, unfortunately I'm gonna fall a bit short of that (ending on 142) but it was actually a pretty quality month on the whole. I immediately started on the right foot as a few days into the month I had a session where I got 1st and 2nd in $15 180s, followed by a $3r 180 win, and then 2nd in the lone $100 18man of the day. That was probably one my best SNG sessions ever. While none of the other days quite lived up to that kind of standard, I did ship a total of 3 $15 180s on the month as well as 3 $3r 180s so finally a bit of of heat in that area is well received. Aside from the SNGs I had a ton of deep runs in MTTs. The best one (which was quite bittersweet) was a 7th place finish in the Hot 11 for around $790. I'll take it but there was $5.4k up top in that one so still slightly disappointed. In addition to the Hot 11 I had a 5th in the $11 6k, 10th in $4 ProgKO, 23rd in $13.50 KO, 28th in Big 4.40, 40th in the Hot 16.50 and quite a few other deep runs including the $1r 35k GTD and another couple runs in the Hot 11 and Hot 16.50. So with all that being said I think it was a pretty decent month when all was said and done. I also played a $365 WSOPc live event in Montreal which was a fun experience but only lasted around 4 hours due to poor card distribution and an unlucky bust out hand. No idea how the 18mans went in April, probably didn't play quite as many of them as I usually do. Eventually I'll post some actual profit figures but so far I've been really good with not checking results too much and I think it's paid off a bit in the mental department. I've been taking it easy as far as grinding goes in this last week, been experimenting with those new 18man hyper KO SNGs which is a fun structure and seemingly very soft so far. I think that's about everything for now. My birthday is coming up in May but aside from that I should be able to put in decent hours and hopefully get my first MTT win of the year!

Cool May Recap

I'm happy to report that I did indeed get my first MTT win of the year as I shipped the $7.50 Bounty Builder on May 19th for ~$2.5k (including bounties). Was quite an improbable victory considering I came into FT 9 of 9 but the poker gods were on my side as I managed to run well enough and play well enough to get the win. Aside from that victory I had some other deep runs but nothing substantial as far as MTTs go. Just a couple days ago however, I happened to get myself into a freeroll for a WSOP Vegas Package via my live homegame group and managed to ship that too, so I'll be heading to Vegas in early July to play Event 58 which is a $1k 2-day tournament with around $300k up top. I would elaborate more but I've got a bit of a headache and looking to just get this over with. Definitely looking forward to the WSOP event in July. This month I managed to hit over 200 grinding hours for the first time on the year, and I think it'll turn out to be a pretty decent month over all when I eventually look at the results as a whole. Thank you for reading

Red face June Recap

June wasn't the most eventful month ever for me. After pounding out over 200 hours of grinding in May I wasn't sure what kind of volume I'd be prepared to get this time around but spoiler alert: my volume was disappointing. What didn't help is that right from the beginning of the month I was experiencing Stars crashes and disconnections in almost every session I played. I've emailed them my logs but they have yet to reply. It's very clear that the problem is on their end because many others have had similar issues throughout the month. Although I had a number of interesting deep runs in June, the ones that stick out are 4th in a turbo $22 6-max (see pic), and 13th in the Big 22 which had over $7k up top. Both results are slightly disappointing but bound to happen sometimes on the MTT grind. In the $22, I was 1/5 for a while but lost a massive pot against the 2nd place stack QK vs AK on K high flop. Anyways not too much else to say for now, I'll try to play better volume in July despite the fact that I'll be in Vegas from the 3rd to the 7th to play WSOP Event #58. Hope I can come back here with some real good news next week, or at least some good stories.

Thanks for reading

Angry July Recap

As mentioned in the previous post, I spent 5 days in Vegas at the beginning of this month and played a $1k (turboey) WSOP event. In the 2nd level of the tournament I was down to around 2-3k (from 5k starting stack) but I managed to triple up with TT against AQ and 77. From there I proceeded to hit my stride for a while, knocked out 3 players at various times and chipped up to around 25-30k at my peak. I had one unfortunate hand where I got a lot of chips in the middle as a 55/45 favourite on the flop but couldn't hold. It was KTs vs ATs (hearts) on a KTx flop with two hearts. I put my opponent all in and he called and hit an ace on the turn to take down the ~30k chip pot and leave me with just 11k going into break. From there I was playing a ~10bb stack and didn't have much choice but to find a hand and go with it. I managed to get through with a shove a couple times, but then, when we were 40 players away from the money, I jammed A3s and got called by AQ (same guy who I lost the KT hand to) and he held to KO me. Despite not cashing the tournament I still had a good time and enjoyed the run while it lasted. When I got back home it was pretty hard to get back into a solid online grinding routine for a few reasons. Primarily it's because the Stars software continues to crash on me a ton, and it's extremely frustrating. I haven't been able to confidently play large sessions because these crashes happen so frequently and they tend to ruin my willingness to grind. For that reason my volume this month was pretty bad and it was probably a losing month overall. I did make another deep run in the Big 22 (got 41st this time) and probably some other good runs too that I just can't recall. No big scores but at least I had a small bink in a $5 hyper a few days ago.

Arrow August Recap

This entry is coming in a bit late because Surfers was down for a week or so. Honestly don't really feel like doing these anymore but my OCD won't let me miss a month so I'll just make it bare-bones. August wasn't a very good month for me from a profit perspective, I think it was probably a negative month. I did manage to squeak out 2nd place for the monthly hours bonus @150ish so that's good at least. I was feeling a bit tired of high variance MTTs and coming up short in them so I primarily focused on 18mans and 180mans but didn't run very well at those (especially the 180s). I'm now officially back in school full time to get my degree (not as bad as it sounds, only around 12 hours of actual class per week, just gotta find time to the assignments/studying). I'll still be trying to grind online on most days but my volume might suffer to some extent. Anyways that's about it for now, it's more fun to do these entries after good months .
